NBA's 'Big Baby' Davis Slammed with 40-Month

former NBA player Glen "Big Baby" Davis has been sentenced to 40 months in prison, along with three years of supervised release, for his involvement in an elaborate scheme to defraud the NBA's health care benefits plan. The sentencing took place in a New York federal court on May 9, 2024, after Davis was found guilty in November 2023.

The case initially came to light in 2021 when more than 20 people, including numerous former NBA players, were charged with filing false medical claims with the NBA Players' Health and Benefit Welfare Plan. Davis's conviction is part of a broader investigation into fraudulent activities among former NBA players, with several others also facing legal consequences for their actions.

In addition to the prison sentence and supervised release, Davis is required to pay $80,000 in restitution and attend a financial management class. He must also undergo mandatory drug treatment as part of his supervised release conditions.

Davis, who played for the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Clippers during his NBA career, was part of the Celtics team that won the 2008 championship. His involvement in the fraud scheme has led to a dramatic fall from grace, tarnishing his reputation and serving as a cautionary tale for others in the sports world.

The NBA and the Players' Association have yet to issue a statement regarding Davis's sentencing. However, this case underscores the importance of integrity and ethical conduct among professional athletes, and serves as a reminder that actions have consequences, regardless of one's status or achievements.
