Nintendo announced today that it has acquired Miami-based game developer Shiver Entertainment from Embracer Group. This acquisition marks a significant step for Nintendo as it seeks to enhance its porting capabilities and secure high-level resources for software development.
Shiver Entertainment, established in 2012, has a rich history of working on large-scale title developments and has recently been involved in porting and developing software titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1. Nintendo's acquisition of Shiver aims to leverage this expertise to continue the studio's focus on porting and developing software for multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.
"Nintendo will acquire 100% of the outstanding shares of Shiver and make it a wholly owned subsidiary," Nintendo said in a statement. "By welcoming Shiver’s experienced and accomplished development team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources for porting and developing software titles."
Despite the acquisition, Shiver Entertainment's focus will remain the same, with the studio continuing to work on commissions that port and develop software for multiple platforms. This includes the Nintendo Switch, ensuring that the studio's expertise will be utilized across a broad range of platforms.
The acquisition is expected to have only a minor effect on Nintendo's results for the current fiscal year, demonstrating the company's strategic approach to enhancing its development capabilities.
The news comes as a welcome development for Shiver Entertainment, which was previously part of the Embracer Group. The studio, led by CEO John Schappert, has a proven track record in both porting and development of video game software, having worked on series such as Scribblenauts, Need for Speed, Guitar Hero, FIFA, and Madden NFL.
With this acquisition, Nintendo has not only secured a valuable resource for its future software development but has also demonstrated its commitment to providing high-quality gaming experiences for its users. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, Nintendo's strategic moves like this one will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping its future.
