Tesla Pulls the Plug on Steam Gaming in Latest Models

Tesla has recently removed Steam gaming support from its latest Model S and Model X vehicles. This decision marks a significant shift for the electric car manufacturer, which had previously touted the integration of Steam as a major selling point for its infotainment system.

The news first emerged when several new Tesla owners reported receiving messages from the company, informing them that their vehicles would not be capable of playing Steam games. The message stated, "Tesla is updating the gaming computer in your Model X and your vehicle is no longer capable of playing Steam games. All other entertainment and app functionalities are unaffected."

This announcement has left many Tesla enthusiasts and gamers alike scratching their heads, as the Steam integration had been a unique and highly anticipated feature. The integration allowed drivers and passengers to access a vast library of PC games while parked, offering a novel way to pass the time at Supercharger stations.

Tesla's decision to remove Steam support is part of a broader cost-cutting and strategic realignment effort. This move comes amid a series of changes at the company, including layoffs and a shift in focus towards building a robotaxi. The company has also removed other games and features over the years, such as Sonic the Hedgehog.

Despite the disappointment this news may bring to some Tesla owners, it's worth noting that the ability to play Steam games was never a deal-breaker for those keen on electric cars. The removal of this feature does not affect other entertainment and app functionalities in the vehicles.

As of now, the change only affects new sales of the Model S and Model X. Other Tesla models, such as the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck, never had the Steam gaming client to begin with.

While Tesla's decision to remove Steam support may be disappointing to some, it's clear that the company is making strategic decisions to focus on its core business and future developments. As Tesla continues to evolve and adapt, it remains to be seen what other changes and innovations the company will bring to the electric vehicle market.
